Bomb explodes in Iraq, 25 Killed

Car bomb attacks and suicide bombing at a soccer game in northern Iraq, Friday (14 / 5), killing 25 people and wounding 100 others.

Those attacks occurred at about 18:00 local time (22:00 GMT) in the second half of the match between two local teams in a field with no safety in the predominantly Shia city, Tal Afar, 380 kilometers north of Baghdad, said a local police who are not willing unnamed. “Many people gathered at the game,” said Hussein Nashad, game spectators, told AFP by telephone from a hospital in Tal Afar where he was treated for shock.

“I heard a loud explosion and the people behind me to protect me from the bomb fragments,” said Nashad, who was 29 years old. “I ran, but then heard shouting ‘God is great’, and then there was another explosion,” he added.

Initial reports from Tal Afar said, 10 people were killed when a suicide car bomb exploded at the soccer field.

Friday’s attacks were the most deadly in Tal Afar since July 9 last year when two suicide attacks aimed at the home of a police sergeant and his brother has killed 35 people and injuring 61 others. Bombing also occurred when the Iraqi election commission announced that the vote recount in Baghdad has been completed and found no fraud in elections in March.

Violence to rise again in Iraq after the fall dramatically. Monday (10 / 5), more than 100 people were killed in car bomb explosions at a plant, followed by a suicide bomb attacks against emergency workers who deal with victims, and coordinated explosions aimed at security forces.

Violence in Iraq reached its peak between 2005 and 2007, then declined sharply, and the latest attacks marked an increase. Nearly 400 people were killed and more than 1000 others injured last year in coordinated bomb attacks on government buildings, including ministries of finance, foreign affairs and the judiciary in August, October and December.
