China Open First Office in Taiwan
China, Friday (5/7/2010), opened its first office in Taiwan. China hopes these measures will increase tourism. They even call it a “milestone” to mark the improved relations between the two former rivals had.
Association of Cross-Strait Tourism Exchange unofficial China officially launched its office in Taipei, according to the report which is the largest outside the mainland, at a dinner at the Grand Hotel in the capital city. “This important development, and can be a milestone in the exchange of cross-Taiwan Strait, ’said Shao Qiwei, head of China National Tourism Agency, at the opening ceremony.
People from most of mainland China have been allowed to travel to Taiwan. Shao said that Beijing will soon allow the six provinces to open again for a visit to the island.
This event was held on Friday or three days after the Taipei unveil its new office in Beijing to exchange the first time since the two sides separated in 1949 at the end a civil war.
Exchange could be role model in the future. According to Ma Xiaoguang, deputy leader of the Association for Cross-Strait Relations Taiwan, China’s semi-official body in charge of relations with Taiwan.
“I hope we can exchange more Development office to help encourage peace,” Ma said at the ceremony which took place last Friday.
Fan Guishan, China’s first tourism envoy to Taiwan, told the media of China in Taipei this week that he “felt proud and honored” to be assigned to his new position.
“I never expected to have a chance to visit Taiwan before. However, I never dreamed that I would become the first director of tourism office,” he said as quoted by China News Service.
“I was deeply moved and touched by the warmth of the people of Taiwan,” he said.
Fans and two aides came to Taipei in September 2009 to prepare for the opening of an office located in a fairly busy business district of that.
According to the Government of Taiwan, the island has witnessed a greater growth of tourism in the region than anywhere elsewhere in Asia last year thanks to the visitors from China mainland.
More than one million tourists have visited Taiwan China since 2008, when President Ma Ying-jeou of the ruling promises to improve trade and tourism relations with China.
Important factor increasing the number of trade and tourism exists in the Ma government’s decision in July 2008. He decided to receive three times the average daily quota of China in the middle of tourist relations warmed up quickly.
Beijing still regards Taiwan as part of its territory, awaiting reunification. In fact, the process of unification will be done by “force” if necessary.
Step advancement occurred when Taiwan intended to sign major trade agreements are planned with China, in June, saying that Taiwan is still going to increase economic growth and jobs.
However, some parties to give criticism and warnings that the treaty would make Taiwan even more dependent again on the mainland and to reduce its de facto independence.
Some observers said the exchange of the tourism office will improve relations with Beijing. But there is also an disagrees and wants the island’s independence. “This positive development in cross-strait relations and step in the right direction. However, political interference can occur anytime,” said George Tsai, a political scientist University of Culture of China.
Ma’s Kuomintang party leaders, the ruling party, will face competition from the quiet pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party in regional elections, November.
