American Parliament, Tuesday (15/12/2009) yesterday, finally approved the application of economic sanctions to force Iran to freeze its nuclear program. U.S. President Barack Obama is given the authority to effectively block the company that supplies Iran with oil products refined, import or produce their oil and do business in the United States.

“Iranian nuclear weapons issue is very serious and urgent to deal with the United States, and we must use all diplomatic means we possess, including tougher sanctions, to prevent it does not become a reality,” said deputy Democrat, Howard Berman.

Because of the lack of domestic refining capacity, Iran, the oil-rich country that still rely on imports to meet about 40 percent of domestic consumption. Iran got most of the supplies from the Swiss company, Vitol; Dutch-Swiss company, Trafigura; France, Total; Swiss company Glencore and British Petroleum; and the Indian company, Reliance.

Berman is also chairman of the House Foreign Affairs said the U.S. authorities through the local law must act because Iran had rejected Obama’s attempts to talk. But Stephen Lynch, another Democratic representative, criticized the bill. He compares with the U.S. embargo on Cuba and declared what he would do that Obama will only damage actions for pro-democracy demonstrations of this.

“(The decision) This will unite the Iranian people against us,” said Republican representative Ron Paul.

Eric Cantor, the number two in the Senate, calling the act is one of the best U.S. chance to convince Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions.

So far, Iran insists that its nuclear program for civilian energy purposes. They denied Western accusations that Iran plans to make atomic weapons in order to have it in a few years.

“This holiday season, we must be careful not to give Iran what appears at the top of the list of wants and what is most needed to achieve nuclear ambitions,” said Mark Wallace, president of the United States over Iran’s nuclear opponents.
